Doodling - a fascination with line

Often it begins as a little doodle of lines and before I know it...

Painted Doodle

The progression continues in the World of Doodle to the happy addition of paint (yay!)

For Lesson 4*, one could choose a existing doodle or create a new one.  I doodled a new one which grew into something more like a tableau:

The rice paper was really fun to draw on with the Sharpie and it enabled me to be very specific in my imagery.  Also adding paint gave "mass" to my doodled scene.

Continuing with the emphasis on a single doodle, Lesson 3 was about "growing" the doodle.

Here is my sheep in a mushroom forest in small, medium and large in grey colors, ocean colors and sunshine colors, respectively:

Doodling a different perspective

The weather has been chilly and grey with thunderstorms.  Remy really doesn't like the sound of thunder and he pretty much shuts down when he hears it.  I am pretty certain that he would rather have sunshine and blue skies return...

O, he does love the sunshine :-)

Little Doodle Book

Diane Culhane's online class, "Doings of A Doodle" has emphasized that one's own doodles are a source of inspiration - they are tiny treasures.

Lesson 2 prep - making an eminently portable doodle book so that one has a nice surface to use whenever the opportunity arises:

Doodles In Isolation

From my sketch books, choose some favorite doodles.  Isolate them and place each one on watercolor paper.

Instead of being lost in a mass of doodling, each selected doodle is spotlighted:

Diane Culhane's online class, "Doings of A Doodle" is just finishing up.  The class has been a fascinating exploration of the doodles that begin (somewhere) in the brain and move to the hand and then to paper.

A really interesting exercise that I had never done before was to doodle while reading (no peeking at the paper - a "blind doodle"):

Dog in the studio

along with Remy, of course :-) 

Doodling around this morning with a sketch of an imaginary dog.  Originally he was very loosely rendered but I gradually changed him into a stylized, imaginary pooch :-)

Looks like he's happy and just back from "walkies".

 

It's a Spring thing :-)

My goldie, Remy, loves spring for so many reasons - one of them is that the pleasant weather makes for even longer walks :-)

For whatever reason, I cannot put away the pens or the desire to doodle words; I combined Remy and spring into this:

I love walkies.

Chasing rabbits

is the current assignment for Year of the Spark.  Carla  has the class chasing rabbits...but in a positive way :-)

My rabbit chasing had to do with acting upon a desire to plunk around on a ukulele.

Ukulele fresh out of the box.  Remy knows I haven't a clue :-)

The "other" rabbit I was chasing... guilt-free doodling and exploring with no goal in mind, e.g., wasting time:

Snow Play

Another snow storm.  I enjoy watching the swirling snowflakes - especially when I am in my studio playing - snow light is a bit grey but bright and very even.  I have fun writing and doodling (I had intended to clean my work table to prep for some painting, but...)

I enjoy doodling and if I have a quad pad in front of me, it usually ends up looking like this:

Pattern-making is relaxing.  When I put away my paper and pen, I have created some backgrounds that may be useful or if nothing else... collage fodder :-)
