From chickens to cats

My study of chickens continues and I am also adding cats to my warm-up sketching.

As I mentioned in this previous post, "I don't know much about cats." , I still haven't learned anything new about cat behavior because I very rarely interact with them.  However, I can still work at creating a representation of a cat:

Glib or tongue-in-cheek?

I was doodling around with word art and lettering - the usual subjects being interesting words or quotes.  I came upon this one and doodled it:

I have very little experience with kittens and cats therefore I was wondering if Ogden Nash was being glib or perhaps just tongue-in-cheek.

I would wholly disagree if this had been said about puppies and dogs because a dog is just a more wonderful version of a puppy :-)

Active lines and a MOO

I like to sketch every day.  Sometimes these sketches are quick line drawings straight from my head.  My favorite subject is the dog :-)

I drew a series of three:

 I had no idea that there is such a thing as a witches' door, but in any case, my word art isn't one of them.  It's just word play :-)

Doodles In Isolation

Another exercise from Diane Culhane's online class, "Doings of A Doodle". 

From my sketch books, choose some favorite doodles.  Isolate them and place each one on watercolor paper.

Instead of being lost in a mass of doodling, each selected doodle is spotlighted:

A sheep in a mushroom forest.

Spark Those 1-Liners

Plunging into part one of the first assignment from Carla for 2015: Year of the Spark, the task is a fun warm-up exercise, one-liners.

One-liners are continuous line (can't lift the pen from the paper) drawings that get the hand moving.  They are very quickly rendered to help push thinking, or over-thinking, out of the driver's seat.  These one-liners took 10 - 12 minutes to complete.

Is this normal?

Remy and I were on walkies yesterday afternoon. We were moving along at a nice clip when this white thing caught my eye:

We checked it out more carefully and saw that it was...

Wow, it's a meow!

a cat!
I know very little about cat behavior and I wondered, "Is this is a cat thing?"  It did look quite at ease until it saw a perky Golden Retriever giving it his full attention. I paused long enough to take a pic and then we left so that this cat could go back to its reverie...
