Numbat and MOOdle

I had never heard of or seen a numbat until a couple of weeks ago.  It is kind of cute and I wanted to make a sketch of one :-)

Also known as a banded anteater.

Daily art journal pages and two rabbits

A couple of days ago I completely filled my second daily art journal.  Next up, a new journal - the blank page - uh oh.  To conquer the first mark/blank page trepidation, I make it a practice to open the journal and "sign" my name; that's the end of the angst :-)

From my just completed art journal this is how I signed the blank page:

Making the first mark... easily :-)

I've been making a daily entry in my art journal since early November 2015.  I love having a lot of random thoughts and images gathered in one place.

Every day when I open up my art journal I begin a ritual to make the first marks on the page easily.  I use a black 02 Pigma Micron pen to create the four corner marks (a random shape) and then draw horizontal and vertical lines to connect them.  From there I divide the page into specific sections of "Draw", "Misc", "Ideas/To Dos", and an area for journaling some thoughts.  Boom, I am on my way :-)

Color and not

Beautiful spring-like weather this morning.  Remy and I were sitting out on the deck listening to the birds and taking in the sunshine.  He likes to flop over and lay his head on my leg and snooze; this being springtime, I come away with a covering of dog fur - major shedding.

I've been working away daily in my art journal since early last November.  I am experimenting with the format; the Draw and Misc sections have increased in size.

Random patterns

I enjoy drawing patterns.  Some will be random - pick a spot on the page, put the pen to the surface, and begin drawing with nothing particular in mind. 

At other times I may set limits such as lines and circles only, or create patterns using an object and its variations.

In this first one, I limited the kinds of shapes:

In the next one, leaf shapes:

Leaves (pigment ink, Copic markers)

I find drawing patterns allows the busy-ness in my brain to recede and I settle into a calmer place :-)

Daily art journal entry - sketch and word art

I watched my Remy playing in the snow today.  He was having the best time following his nose and digging in mounds of light, fluffy snow.  I like to poke a treat into the snow and let him find it, too.

Inspired by the hot summer day

It is very hot - since early this morning.  No clouds.  No cooling breeze.  Remy loves the sun but he suffers when the temperature exceeds 78 degrees; perhaps it is because of his super fine, super effective undercoat?  Alas, no walkies during the day. 

We did spend a few seconds (!) out on the back deck earlier this afternoon and I was imagining Remy like this:

"Tangled" Magic Horse

Over the past few weeks I have used different techniques for few versions of the Magic Horse:
 

Quick sketch

Last December I took Beckha Krahula's online class, "One Zentangle® A Day".  I found it relaxing and also an easy commitment; one tile is very small, 3.5-inches (89mm) square,

 so I could make one or several depending upon time and inclination :-)

However, I thought it would be fun to use the Zentangle® method  for this final horse:

Larger than a tile, this horse is 8-in (203mm) by 6.25-in (159mm)
