A useful diversion :-)

I'll take a break from some other art work and create a tile. It helps me to forget about that other work and shed whatever mental/overly-analytical state I may have worked myself into. It's just a brief respite; and when I come back I have an unbiased eye toward my work and as a bonus, a finished tile.

So then, what may have inspired this tile? I was finally able to sit outdoors with my Remy and bask in some sunshine. True, I was bundled up in my winter clobber, but the sun was so-o-o warming...beautiful blue sky and some tufts of grass peeking out from under the snow. Maybe that is where these colors came from?

Although "it is what it is", wouldn't Spring be lovely?

Glaze and pastels

Another tile but with much more color - it has sort of a "garden" ambiance:

I love working with pastels.

White glaze pen straight to paper so that there are no visible pencil lines. It makes for a semi-planned tile, very prone to missteps. I just remind myself that "it is what it is"  :-)

Tangle blues

Tiles with some color:

Colored pencil in oriental blue.

Perhaps a snowflake-y theme would have been more apropos as cold snowy weather blew in last night after a string of days that felt like spring.

And peacock blue.

Snow light makes me happy. It pours in the windows as I work away in my studio :-)

Glaze and color

Yesterday I completed another assignment for Lesson 4 (Beckah Krahula's "One Zentangle® A Day" online class). It involved the use of a Glaze pen. I have pens of many kinds, but I have never tried one of these. I did a little test piece to check out its properties:

Sakura Glaze pen and Inktense colored pencils on 140# watercolor paper.

Love its "resist" property. I don't think there is another nib size available so this line width is it.

My first 3.5" tile with glaze and color was free form; no string was used because the pencil line remains visible even with the "white" Glaze color - see above. The tangles were mostly organic:

Sakura Glaze pen and Tim Holtz® Distress Ink on 140# watercolor paper.

So then, a lot of possibilities, and I understand there is a clear ink available too. Hm-m-m-m...
