Tiny is fascinating.


The first canvas I ever stretched was six feet square. Over the years I have worked on quite a few paintings at that scale; it’s incredibly freeing - physical, full of action, accidents and discovery. I love it.

But on the other hand, there is the intimacy of small. Working in a controlled way, but not so much that there is no life left. I did some simple "drawings" on one-inch square pieces of card stock; here’s one:

Not surprisingly, "dog-themed" :-)
About the size of a postage stamp - they are easily misplaced! You can probably guess how I know that.
